The funny thing about April 5 was that none of us felt like going out that night, so we all promised one another we’d only stay for half an hour. Forty-five minutes, tops. I thought the most interesting part of it would be having a look inside the just-begun Artspace project known as the Tannery Arts Center.
I had never even heard of Rachel Williams, also known as Birds Fled From Me. But while I lurked outside the performance space, I noticed that the audience was bewitched by this performer. The room was packed with Birds Fled From Me fans.

That place was way too crowded for claustrophobic me, so I got my friend Dustin to show me his personal haven inside the Tannery, a room with a loft that holds his bed above his piano. Then he left to continue contributing to the cause of Art (as seen in the next-to-last photo below) and I snooped around and snapped my shutter. If you know what I mean.

When the show ended, I bought the Birds Fled From Me album, Deeper Lurking, and used it as an excuse to take Rachel’s picture. She is quite hypnotic to gaze upon. It wasn’t until a few days later, when I listened to the album while walking by myself, that I understood how much loveliness this person has to offer the world.
Now I’m addicted to Deeper Lurking. Oh, how I wish I’d had this album last year, it would have been just the thing for certain indescribable moments. At least I have it now. Go listen to Birds Fled From Me, there are lots of tracks on her MySpace page. Also check out her website. Buy her album and be enchanted.
