We drove up to Sonoma county recently to take photos for a sustainable meat company. The client needed photos of sheep and rolling hillsides and basically just a good lookin’ record of the fact that the animals are living the good life.

It was An Adventure. We saw verdant green hills, rife with woolly sheep. We took their pictures (do you take a sheep’s soul when you take its picture? What if it’s a Catholic sheep? CONUNDRUM!). We stepped in all sorts of exciting mud and several different varieties of poop, got the car briefly stuck on a home-made dirt speed bump obviously meant for vehicles with bed-liners and tow hooks, took pictures of stubbly ranchers and patted numerous border collies (Sam, Scratch, Chelsea and Terry).

We got a lot of good photos, we saw some beautiful landscapes, some hairy livestock and met some great people. We also almost ran out of gas (seriously, I drove for about 5 miles on an empty tank), but fortunately my fantastically weird luck kicked in and the rancher who was squiring us about the countryside just happened to have five gallons of gas in his barn. An indication of continuing luck and good fortune? I certainly hope so!
